A Photo a Week Challenge: Glass 4/13/2020

I LOVE Glass…all kinds…always have…fascinated from childhood on…blown away at 5 years old, watching a glass blower make little animals at the San Diego Zoo. Started collecting those animals, one Zoo visit at a time…had 50 or so by the time I reached adolescence…fell in love with Cobalt glass eye cups and medicine bottles (after an eye surgery at 6 years old).

At this writing, my collection of blown glass figurines is packed away so no good photos, but here are tiny samples.

An addiction you say? Well, probably. Undeniable proof? The Glass Museum in Tacoma is one of my favorite places on the planet, and the fact that I often give a trip to the museum, or a Glass Blowing class (held in a small local studio) as birthday and Christmas gifts!

My collection has become unmanageable, out of control so I had to put myself on Glass Buying Restriction a few years back…

I have combed antique stores, garage sales, swap meets, etc. my whole adult life, and have found some real treasures.

Mostly bottles of all varieties…

But once people who love you, know you have a weakness for something, mine being blue glass, they have a perfect (and easy) way to find gifts for you, so my collection grew from bottles to all things blue.

And there have been favorites along the way…too many to show you so I picked these at random

And this one I thought was an odd candy dish…until I got it home and really looked at it

But really, my favorite use of this Cobalt Collection is designing playgrounds for my BUGS!

OneWordSunday Challenge 1-20-19 Blue

Spotted this new challenge but to be honest, it was really just the word. I can barely keep up with all the challenges these days.

But BLUE just popped right out at me.

Hmmm, let’s see. I wonder if I can find any photos in my library of something BLUE

If math was of more interest to me, I’d spend a day figuring out the actual percentage of pictures I take because of BLUE!!

Photo a Week Challenge: Blue 11/26/18

I know it will seem lazy or like I’m cheating, but I really do want to participate in Nancy’s Challenge. It’s just that I seem to do a LOT of posts on Blue and I’m not sure I can come up with anything new to share.

So here is one I did most recently…and at the end I’ve included several others I did on the topic Blue.

I do hope you will check some of the links out and tell me what you think.

Oh Wait! How about THIS??

What do you mean, “over kill”?

😜

One Word Sunday Challenge: Blue 10/14/18

Can’t really resist this one as I live among as much blue as I can….slightly obsessively, my friends and family might tell you.

It is more than a favorite color. Blue truly affects me, inspires me, moves me to action.

I blame this on childhood.

But for today…Here’s an accidental shot I love, taken with new phone while experimenting with the close up feature. And on the right, what I wrote for a post on Altered Books, my theme being Blue.

I’ve posted on Blue so many times, I will put a short list at the bottom of this post.

Sometimes I tell myself I’m photographing birds or clouds or trees, but it was undoubtedly the Blue that got my attention in the first place.

By the way, we lie about the rain in the Northwest, to keep the crowds from moving here for the above Blue skies.

Can you guess my favorite flower?

I will snap a shot of anything Blue that catches my eye! (Can you guess what this is?)

Even my aging feet in their new Blue sandals will make me grab the camera.

But the Blue that has the most control over me…seriously, I am helpless around this…are my grandson’s eyes!!

Here are the promised “other posts”. I really do hope you enjoy them. It is just a handful of ones containing BLUE!

Lens-Artists Photo Challenge–Blue

Disclaimer: I started this when the challenge was first issued but then lost complete control of my computer. She goes off on these non-working vacations from time to time, and she just returned this morning. Please, someone feel free to tell me if this is inappropriate or if it even works. This will be my first post for lens-artists.

Well, I’m not sure exactly how to do this but seeing a photo challenge about Blue is just what I needed to get off my stalled out blog-butt. I have been lazy since the demise of the WPC weekly challenge.

I confess, in advance, to being slightly obsessed with blue.

And though I am primarily an accidental photographer, I welcome any comments on my photos, or their stories as well.

Now, a photo (or two, or three, or…) of Blue.

Tough choice.

I am a Blue Angels Fan and they were just here, flying over my house for 4 days.

I have collected Cobalt glass since I was a small child.

And one of my favorite things to photograph is contrails.

Maybe one of each?

If you can make this one bigger on your screen, you’ll get the same surprise I got…

I even participated in a year-long, color-themed “Altered Book” project and my book was titled Defending Blue. This whole Blue challenge has inspired me to write that story up separately, but here’s a teaser…

Thanks so much for this challenge. Comments and feedback really appreciated!!

I LOVED this response to the challenge!
