I KNOW her…met her many times in my practice…and maybe even in my personal life…
Well, the theme today is Siblings or Brother/Sister.
For me, a heart-breaking theme…
I was just telling James last night, after watching one of those poignant long lost family reunion TV shows, I wish I could find some surprise, unknown siblings…from my biological father, whom I never met. Not that I didn’t search for the guy for much of my younger life. But looking for Michael John Kelly, I just never had any luck. Way, WAY too common an Irish name. Even with all the “Ancestry” type options we have these days, I have kind of given up.
I just wish I could have some kind of healthy reunion with the sisters I did have growing up. Pretty unlikely though.
I have to admit that along with my joy at Helen’s experiences with HER sister, I also experience some envy.
So, I thought of this song by Cris Williamson called “Sister”. I’ve posted it before but am not sure I included the above backstory. It’s a beautiful song, worth another listen, even if you already know it. I can close my eyes and imagine myself NOT the oldest sibling, taking care of everyone else, but having an older sister singing these words to me!!
All of the earth
Child of God
Just one of among the family
And you can count on me
to share the load
and I will always help you
hold your burden and I will be the one to help you
ease your pain.
Lean on me
I am your sister
Believe on me
I am your friend
Lean on me
I am your sister
Believe on me
I am your friend
I will fold you in my arms
like a white wing dove
Shine in your soul
your spirit is crying
spirit is crying
Born of the earth
Child of God
Just one among the family
And you can count on me to share the load
And I will always help you
Hold your burdens
and I will be the one to help you ease your pain.
Lean on me
I am your sister
Believe on me
I am your friend
Lean on me
I am your sister
Believe on me
I am your friend
Lean on me
I am your sister
Believe on me
I am your friend
Lean on me
I am your sister
Believe on me
I am your friend
I am your friend
PS Here’s some info on Cris Williamson, a wonderful and talented singer/songwriter.

I had the extreme pleasure of being at a Bonnie Raitt concert once, when she called Cris out on the stage to sing with her. They did “Angel from Montgomery”. Oh my GOD! What a beautiful combination of voices.

Absolutely only one choice for me and it’s one of my favorites!!!
I wrote a post earlier about an amazing concert I went to once at The Gorge with Jackson Browne. You can read about it here: https://chosenperspectives.com/tag/gorge/
He did this song as the encore and the whole audience knew from the very first note!!!

PS If by chance you are am Aaron Sorkin fan, he did a TV series a couple of years back called Roadies! A classic Sorkin script that was really great but got cancelled after way too short a time (one season). Too bad. I wanted it to STAY on for years!! What a concept, following the lives and adventures of Concert Roadies!!
OK, so when we are in the mountains, I get up very early every morning so that I can watch the sunrise. I love to hear (sometimes see) the marauding Wild Turkeys AND any other wild life passing through that early (deer, moose, coyote, bull frogs, various seed eating birds, etc.)
I sit on the porch swing under a glass roof so I can be there in any weather. This event starts my days with a smile.
This is what I see from my protected seat.
So, I’m all bundled up yesterday, mug of hot coffee warming my hands and I hear a scuffling sound over the edge, just past the rapidly growing daffodils. I get up to investigate and hear it what I see.
Uh oh. I realize now what the scuffling sound was. A Squirrel, our primary nemesis here (other than the Flickers that are relentlessly eating our HOUSE!) has somehow gotten the lid off the container.
Though we have finally found a system using Slinky’s to keep him off the bird feeders, STILL he finds this way to torment James, who really wants to resort to the BB Gun. So far, I won’t let him.
I chase him off before J. can get his weapon, and bring the seed container up to the porch where we have collected a pile of stuff to take to Goodwill. Now the seed is right next to me, within arm’s reach should our invader dare to approach!
Next, I see the squirrel return to the place where the container had been…and he is completely stumped. He knows it was right there just minutes before. He sniffs around frantically and this next thing, I wish I had thought to video tape. He stops, slowly turns and points his angry beady little eyes directly at ME, up on the porch. We stay frozen, in this stand off for long seconds! That GLARE!! (You will never convince me that rodents can’t THINK.)
The squirrel scampers off, disgusted, and after a quick trip inside for more coffee, I return to sitting on my swing, peaceful morning again, at last.
But no, I come back outside to this!!!
In the short time it took me to go inside, this little guy (and several members of his clan) have shown up and eaten a HOLE in the side of the seed container. It is now leaking birdseed for them to chow down on!!!
The irritation came first but then I could not prevent the huge SMILE!
I read it wrong. I thought Helen said Light, not Lights.
But I still like the first song that came to mind. It’s a great personal power song!
As is apparently often the case with my song choices…PUMP UP YOUR VOLUME!

90 Years ago, we were blessed with Maya Angelou’s arrival on the planet.
And 50 years ago today, we lost Dr. King.
And if you go to the Google “doodle” for today (on their home page or maybe just google it 😉)….there is a stunning reading of the poem Still I Rise by Dr. Angelou and others…
Here are three things I have written about my experience about Martin Luther King, Jr.

Just a minute. The sun is rising as I am typing this. I’ll be back in a bit…..
Here’s what I just witnessed…(pump up your volume for the video)
I love sunrise in the mountains, especially in Spring when the turkeys are doing their mating performances!!!
But Sunrise in the city (well, suburb) where we also live can be pretty spectacular!
Sunsets, that’s a whole different thing. I have been blessed over my life with so many stunning views, I can’t even choose one.
So here are a few favorites…
I think some music from Jesse Colin Young would be the soundtrack….
I loved this topic. I may have shared this story before but a very special Sunrise taught me one of my most important life lessons ever.
See if you can put yourself in this scene. You are on a once-in-a-lifetime, month long trip with your 7 closest friends, sailing in the South Pacific (Fiji). You are sitting on the deck of a 95 foot yacht before first light. As the sun begins to rise, you realize that although every rise and set of the sun down here has been fantastic, this one is going to break all the records. It is quickly shaping up to be maybe the most spectacular sunrise ever, in the history of the world. There are no words. It is happening like a movie, the light changing dramatically every minute or so. All you can think of is waking everyone else up quickly so they don’t miss this one! You become frantic, not wanting to go below decks because you will miss some never-before-seen aspect of a sunrise.
Then it dawns on you (pun intended). This particular, exact, specific sunrise might be intended just for YOU!
Now try not believing in God………….
I chose “Day” but then my mind reeled with options!
I’ll start here…but more to follow in another post!
