Macro, micro…sort of. I just loved this teeny tiny blossom…

Landscape. Much to my neighbors dismay, I do NOT landscape. Hey, when it grows wild like this why would I? Maybe I did take it too far when I planted flowers in a toilet in my front yard, but I was making a point. I have lived here long before their houses were even built.

And at our other home, Nature does a much better job of landscaping than we could anyway.

The landscape between our two homes.

Oh we tried landscaping…lined the driveways with rocks and boulders. I even planted 30 Primroses along this lower driveway.

Not really sure which of our “landscaping” visitors had a problem with all those flowers but hey lasted literally TWO DAYS!

It could have been dinner for any of these guys…

We did have to put in a retaining wall of huge rocks, but it was so ugly, I have been slowly filling it with succulents that so far, no one is eating. It will take me YEARS to fill in all the crevices and cracks but then it will be beautiful!

In the mean time, the boys and I will continue to haul Beach Rocks from the San Juan Islands to landscape the little side yard…

October Photo a Day Challenge-10/15/18 Autumn Colors

I published some of these for another challenge already but I am so completely in awe of a particular representation of this theme. It’s close to my house and I look forward to seeing it each year.

I have been calling this the “Wonder Wall”. I drive by other walls like this in my travels around Seattle and Bellevue (Washington), covered with color, but nothing like this one. Most are along the freeways. Here, I park and can walk by, slowly, taking close-up shots. I really love it.

(These are also my first attempts at short videos so I’d appreciate it if you let me know if they work! Turn down your volume and imagine tweeting birds because unfortunately the best light is during rush-hour traffic!)

Just to give you an idea of how many photo ops there are at this wall, these I’m posting today are all different from the ones I already posted on the Lens Artist’s Challenge-Changing/Changeable.

You can see that one here:

On a walk once, I noticed these leaves above for blocks and blocks. What struck me was that both brown and green leaves were falling off, but the brown ones landed “face down”, while the green ones, with no exceptions, landed “face up.

October Photo a Day Challenge-10/8/18 Branches

I met a tree yesterday…a real old-timer, in the front yard of the new home of some dear friends. I spoke to it as I entered the house, asked if I could photograph it, and then left it to contemplate its answer.

When my visit with my friends was finished, I walked back out to visit the tree. I told it that while I was inside, I had checked on my phone for the daily photo challenge and discovered, coincidentally, the word for the day was branches and I wondered if it would be OK to take a few pictures of its glorious examples for my daily post.

It told me yes but only if I passed on this statement.

“I am a very old tree, even for my species, and I have sheltered this home, and its people since 1938.

I was here first.

I could live a lot, longer if I am allowed to.

Elderly trees like me are just like the elderly of your species. We are living, and breathing beings, and sentient, in our own way. As we age, we may need extra care, but…

We can tell you such stories……”

I grew up with a giant tree in my childhood front yard. I climbed way up in it to hide. Its branches held me safe and kept me invisible while the pain down in my house was happening.

I believe this tree has also held many children, but in joy and play.

I told the tree “Thank you for posing for my photos of Branches.”

October Photo a Day Challenge

https://citysonnet.wordpress.com/2018/10/01/october-photo-a-day-challenge/

Ooh, ohh, I just found another photo challenge although I am having a hard time keeping all these new challenges straight.

Here are the topics I missed so far:

  1. Welcome October
  2.  Layers
  3. Start with O
  4. Numbers
  5. Birds
  6. Inspired by poem
  7. Dog

Wonder how many of these I can catch up on…hmmm.

1.) Welcome October

I both love and feel sad when I see the last few apples for the year. This season, from our Apple Cider pressing parties, we had about 50 gallons!

2.) Layers

One winter we took my grandsons down to Hood Canal during the Holidays. It was well below freezing but there was no snow. There was a house decorated with layers and layers of water sprayed on the trees which then froze.

3.) Start with O.

What can I say. I always start with “OH!” when the Blue Angels fly over my house!

4.) Numbers

You’d think I would be slowed in my Cobalt Collecting obsession by the numbers of pieces I have….but NO!

5.) Birds

My favorite thing to photograph…well, one of my favorites.

6.) Inspired by poem

(complete blank here…)

7.) Dog

Our friend Marc’s sweet Akita, Razor, and our dog “nephew” (my sister’s dog) Ola, who is even sweeter!

Well, that wore me out but now I am caught up…except for that poetry thingy.
