See, I think I am pretty weird sometimes…what I see, how I see, and what I actually take pictures of.
This challenge frees me up in such a delightful way because you are primed to expect weird!!!
So here goes…definitely some oddballs I can’t classify any other way…
the irony here is THIS dog has been gone for many years…
I’ll take my Hummer sightings any way I can get them!
Old building in Seattle being completely preserved AND refurbished. Combine the highly polished original flooring with sheet rock dust and a construction worker’s wet-pawed dog.amazing old tree
Beach Rock BouquetNo comment. Too weird, even for me!
I love reflections. I like to mess with photographing them because there can be surprises you don’t see when looking at something directly.
Here I am photographing the lights hanging from the deck railing and not until later, do I see the boat coming in…And here, I liked the blurry Santa reflection in the window but was later surprised by the clarity of the neighbor’s windows.
That makes me think of how different things can look, depending on where you stand, where you focus and what you are feeling.
Here I was capturing the coastline from our train window and caught James playing a game on his phone! Busted!!!
I took these photos for the theme Blue, but discovered the trees and clouds afterward.
This is two shots of the same glass, just me deciding which perspective to focus on. (I’m sure there is a “glass half empty or full” reference here…)
I have this great photo hanging in my group therapy room that reminds me to always look at tough situations from different angles before I conclude anything.
Flipping this upside-down sure changes the feel of the photo, doesn’t it?
I’m so grateful to my Dad for teaching me that there is always, ALWAYS more than one way to look at something.
Here are some other posts I did about Reflections… Let me know what you see.
HUH??? ChosenPerspectives here…Somehow my post got posted with someone else’s post mixed in it. I don’t know how that happened??? (Helen???) If you know how please inform.
This is mine:
I got completely side-tracked with this theme. I can see many great songs have been shared since yesterday, including the very first one I thought of. I always like to go with that first one because it’s often a real old-timer, and I fantasize I am sharing my old music with younger generations.
But something strange happened as I was preparing to post it.
Disclaimer: I rarely post anything political or controversial, unless it’s really important to me, and what I am about to say has nothing with the other people who also chose the same song I thought of. It also has nothing to do with the group doing this song. (The Zombies were brilliant and I’ve included a couple more of their songs at the bottom.)
It’s just that I was shocked and dismayed at the video that came with the song.
At first, I was completely embarrassed, like somehow a whole generation’s blind spots about sexuality were my fault.
Don’t get me wrong. I was THERE! And I remember all of this going on around me. It was the SIXTIES.
But this video shows only one aspect of a powerful movement, the sexual revolution, not all of it.
Now that I’ve had some time, I have been able to shift my perspective, and see that I did not choose literally one of the most demeaning-to-women, music videos I’ve ever seen…(talk about objectifying, harassing, unwanted touching and the whole game of it all).
But rather this video shows just how far we have come since 1968.
I almost forgot today was Sunday because I have been trying to get my daughters room finished for Christmas, it being her Christmas gift and all. But I did remember, and I had no idea what to post until I heard a song on a Christmas play list this morning. It is a twist on the twelve days of Christmas, and by the way I loathe that song, but this one was actually worth listening to all the way, so here is the Twelve Days Of Christmas Straight No Chaser.
Arranged by Ken Burgomaster
On the first day of Christmas my true love gave to me,
A partridge in a pear tree.
On the second day of Christmas my true love gave to me,
Two turtle doves and a partridge in a pear tree.
On the fourth day of Christ
On the third day of Christmas my true love gave to me, five golden rings
Four calling birds, three french hens,
Two turtle doves and a partridge in a pear tree
On the ninth day of Christmas, (on the eighth day of Christmas)
My true love gave to me (my true love gave to me)
Nine ladies dancing (eight maids a milking)

On the twelfth day of Christmas my true love gave to me

Partridge in a big pear tree
Every morning…I mean every single morning, I go outside first thing and “caw” for my Crows to come to breakfast. I feed them bits and pieces of our meals from the day before.
I’ve been doing this for 30 years.
My neighbors think I am certifiable.
I have no idea how many families or generations the one or two crows who immediately show up represent, but I CAW, and they come.
Up there on top of the telephone pole, just like clockwork.
Then I say, “Good Morning. Here’s your breakfast.” I toss the food on the grass and before I am all the way turned around, they are on it.
They don’t like me to watch them eat.
But the pole has been crowded lately…
Hope they don’t leave for another restaurant with all these newcomers!
I photograph birds maybe more than anything else…well, except cats, and contrails, flowers, and my bugs…oh never mind. I don’t photograph birds that often.
I rarely get a good shot anyway, partly because I am not properly equipped for good bird photos, so if I get a good, crisp capture, it’s usually an accident.
And I had this one stretch when it seemed ALL I could catch was Bird Butts. I got so many of them I have a whole category for them on my computer.
Oh well, I guess it is a different perspective, after all.
I come home in the morning light
My mother says when you gonna live your life right
Oh mother dear we’re not the fortunate ones
And girls they wanna have fun
Oh girls just want to have fun
The phone rings in the middle of the night
My father yells what you gonna do with your life
Oh daddy dear you know you’re still number one
But girls they wanna have fun
Oh girls just want to have
That’s all they really want
Some fun
When the working day is done
Oh girls, they wanna have fun
Oh girls just wantna have fun (girls and boys wanna have fun, girls wanna have)
Some boys take a beautiful girl
And hide her away from the rest of the world
I want to be the one to walk in the sun
Oh girls they wanna have fun
Oh girls just wanna have
That’s all they really want
Some fun
When the working day is done
Oh girls, they wanna have fun
Oh girls just want to have fun (girls and boys wanna have fun, girls wanna have)
They just wanna, they just wanna
They just wanna, they just wanna, oh girl
Girls they wanna have fun
They just wanna, they just wanna
They just wanna, they just wanna, girls
They just wanna, they just wanna, oh girls
Girls just want to have fun
When the working
When the working day is done
Oh when the working day is done oh girl
Girls, they wanna have fun
They just wanna, they just wanna
They just wanna, they just wanna, oh girls
Girls just want to have fun
When the working
When the working day is done
Oh when the working day is done oh girl
Girls, they wanna have fun
It’s Saturday but I won’t be able to do a post tomorrow.
I knew exactly the song I wanted but when I wrote today’s date, I burst into tears.
38 years ago today we lost John Lennon. I was stopped on the I 90 bridge in rush hour traffic.
I was searching for music, but every station was playing “Imagine”. Oh God, I knew immediately what that meant.
Back then, I also burst into tears .
You know how, in traffic, you can catch people movement in the car next to you? I turned to see a young man, way younger than me, also sobbing. We locked eyes for a long, long time, just crying. We had both just heard, and we knew it.
What an incredibly powerful and intimate moment. I’ll never forget his eyes.
And this version is from one of my favorite movies…ever. I am an all-the-way-out-of-the-closet Mush Head!! But if you like a good “teacher” movie, this is a must.
Now I’m going to go hug my beautiful, beautiful boys….
