vacation photos

No, I am not on vacation…although Nancy Merrill is. So she is skipping a week of her inspiring photo challenges. Her themes are great and the responses she gets are wonderful. Worth visiting her site:

A Photo a Week Challenge

Here’s one I responded to a while back.

A Photo a Week: Whimsical 10/13/18

Since Nancy is gone on vacation, I decided to use THAT as my own theme for today. I actually started writing about our 7,000 mile Epic Roots Road Trip vacation last summer but never got back to it.

Here’s a photo sampling.

October Photo a Day Challenge

October photo a day challenge

Ooh, ohh, I just found another photo challenge although I am having a hard time keeping all these new challenges straight.

Here are the topics I missed so far:

  1. Welcome October
  2.  Layers
  3. Start with O
  4. Numbers
  5. Birds
  6. Inspired by poem
  7. Dog

Wonder how many of these I can catch up on…hmmm.

1.) Welcome October

I both love and feel sad when I see the last few apples for the year. This season, from our Apple Cider pressing parties, we had about 50 gallons!

2.) Layers

One winter we took my grandsons down to Hood Canal during the Holidays. It was well below freezing but there was no snow. There was a house decorated with layers and layers of water sprayed on the trees which then froze.

3.) Start with O.

What can I say. I always start with “OH!” when the Blue Angels fly over my house!

4.) Numbers

You’d think I would be slowed in my Cobalt Collecting obsession by the numbers of pieces I have….but NO!

5.) Birds

My favorite thing to photograph…well, one of my favorites.

6.) Inspired by poem

7.) Dog

Our friend Marc’s sweet Akita, Razor, and our dog “nephew” (my sister’s dog) Ola, who is even sweeter!

Well, that wore me out but now I am caught up…except for that poetry thingy.

Cee’s Share Your World 3-12-18

Questions this week are great!! Very thought provoking!

If a distant uncle dies and you were always his favorite and leaves you $50,000 (any currency) in his will, what would you do?

Put it in the bank. That would buy us another whole year in our house!!!!

Bedraggled though she is, I adore my funky old house!

What sound or sounds do you love?

Have to agree with Cee, that it’s usually the ocean…but at this time of year it is the bird orchestra that tunes up and plays it’s Daily Opus…just before sunrise. It is truly spectacular! You probably have an orchestra in your area too. You may just need to get up early to hear it.

What’s your middle name?  Why?

I also have a middle-name story.

I never had one as a kid. Always just Kathie Bessey. Then I found out Mr. Bessey was not my biological father. So I rebelliously took it upon myself to add my birth father’s last name as my middle name. I became Kathie Kelly Bessey. Then I married my son’s father and again, still a little miffed about the childhood deceit I experienced, dropped the Bessey and became Kathie Kelly Arcide. That Arcide guy did not stick around for long but now it was my son’s name too, so I kept it.

Then, as time passed (and I did some serious personal therapy), all was forgiven so I added back in my “real” Dad’s name and became Kathie Kelly Bessey Arcide.

One of the best stories I have ever written is about that. You can read about it here…

It’s Never Too Late….*

What did you appreciate or what made you smile this past week?

Honestly, I appreciated Blogging. The whole experience. The discipline to write and post often. The wonderful new friends I’ve made. A terrific excuse to carry my camera around with me everywhere. The kick in the butt to go for a walk even when I can barely move my legs, just because I might capture a photo for my blog!

I love all of it!

Out of this World for WPC 2/28/18 by Chosen Perspectives

Out of This World

All along the boardwalk in Mission Beach (San Diego), apparently to prevent the REAL “owners” of the beach from hanging around, the buildings have been topped with these scary looking Seagull deterring apparatuses.
Poop prevention, I suppose…but what the heck is the beach without seagulls??? I think this is actually for the Tourism Industry because the locals learn how to dodge a dive bombing gull about to let it fly when they are just kids.

I bet in the Northwest, we would have actually cleared the tops of poles like these to provide nesting platforms for Osprey…poop or not!

Growth for WPC 1-3-18 (And WordlessWednesday)

Growth

Now that the weekly WordPress Photo challenge happens on Wednesdays, I find myself trying to combine it with my previous favorite photo challenge, Wordless Wednesday.

Wordless Wednesday has always been a great test for me because I do tend to be a bit wordy! (no…really?)

But today I can’t really find a way to join the two challenges together so try to ignore the non-sequitur-ness of this post…

Here is a slide show on Winter Growth in my neighborhood. I love seeing all the new baby branches reaching for the sky!

And here is my Wordless Wednesday post.

I call it the Breakfast Club.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

I suppose if I could talk on Wordless Wednesday, I would say that my Breakfast Club is GROWING!!!

It has become so much more cooperative (and populated) every morning since the Evil Squirrels can’t climb the bird-feeder pole any longer. They tend to knock the feeder to the ground, often breaking it. And then they decimate the food supply. We installed a squirrel repellent “Slinky” on the pole and so far, it’s working.

Don’t you dare feel sorry for the squirrels. They get plenty, believe me! Those beautiful flocks of Finches (House and Yellow) knock plenty of seed to the ground for the Quail and the squirrels.

And when the Flicker shows up, he is so messy, there is a feast.

Even the Crows and Seagulls stop by for Brunch.

See? “Wordless” is a challenge for me!!
