SongLyricSunday 2/24/19 theme Harmony/Melody/Music

Not sure if my choice this week fits the theme but I do love the melody of this song.

It’s just that the song, and especially the video, mean so much to me. It has been around for a while but I fell all the way in love with it when I heard it on an episode of Grey’s Anatomy. (Historically, this TV series has given me so many favorite songs.)

A couple of weeks ago, a baby, in serious trouble, was born into my extended community, and somehow this song gave me comfort. (She’s going to be fine but it was close…way too close.)

My son’s birthday was yesterday, and everything about this song made me think about him…his life…his path.

My favorite lines:

This is not love you’ve had before
This is something else

It describes the love I feel for my children and my grandchildren.

It’s just a beautiful song and video. I hope you enjoy.

Life On Earth
The first snow
First winter of my life
I was told it was the height of me
The first dance
Well, the first one that counted
Felt like my blood was built my from crackling lights
Oh this ancient wildness
That we don’t understand
The first sound of a heartbeat
To riots roaring on
This is not love you’ve had before
This is something else
This is something else
This is not the same as other days
This is something else
This is something else
This shouldn’t need to be so fucking hard
This is life on earth
It’s just life on earth
It doesn’t need to be the end of you, or me
This is life on earth
It’s just life on earth
The first light
First light on the silent shore
Just the ships set anchor me and you
The way home
This is always the way home
So you can rip that map to shreds, my dear
But all we ever wanted
To see miles and miles from here
In the first days in a strange new land
We could be sailors
This is not the love you’ve had before
This is something else
This is something else
This is not the same as other days
This is something else
This is something else
This shouldn’t need to be so fucking hard
This is life on earth
It’s just life on earth
It doesn’t need to be the end of you, or me
This is life on earth
It’s just life on earth
This shouldn’t need to be so fucking hard
This is life on earth
It’s just life on earth
It doesn’t need to be the end of you, or me
This is life on earth
It’s just life on earth

23 Days Left Till Spring

Cee’s FOTD (Flower of the Day) Primrose

Couldn’t resist posting for Cee’s Challenge today because the Primrose is my favorite flower. There is something delightfully symbolic for me in the fact that one flower genus can have such dramatic variety of species…(did I get that right?)

Kind of like people…

I have to confess, I started liking them because I had a more difficult time killing them than any other flower. (My thumb is a dirty brown, not at all green!)

But I fell all the way in love with them when I discovered the true meaning of the word “perennial”. They show up year after year after year, and always at my lowest point, in what should be the dead of winter. These beautiful little bursts of color are just hard to keep down!

This is a reminder I need in my life!

The Camellia adds its color…so many shedding blossoms landing right on the Primroses

The Primrose has become our neighborhood’s official flower. Every new neighbor gets primroses in honor of our history.

Here’s a post from a while back. Hope you’ll read it and let me know what you think.

Optimism for WPC

FOTD – February 3, 2019 – Primrose

Huge THANK YOU!

I never really look at the tiny number over on the left side of my blog page but this morning, I did.

20190129_07521820190129_075235

I was so shocked. I had no idea that 399 people followed me.

I have to confess that my very serious intention has always been to be that blogger who gratefully welcomes every single new person with a note. I mean, how cool is it to have someone take the time to look at your blog, and maybe even read it? (I can definitely be wordy sometimes!) I wanted to thank every person.

I really did have the best intentions.

My adopted Dad used to tell me “If you think time goes by quickly in your 50’s and 60’s, just wait until you get to 90. You will finally understand the concept of “Warp Speed”!

Time just gets away from me sometimes.

Healing from a badly sprained ankle/foot, I finally had a minute to send out all my individualized Welcome comments and I glanced at that number…399…wait, it just changed to 398, and then shifted to 400…

FOUR HUNDRED WELCOME NOTES!!!

Uh-oh!

Needless to say, I am hoping today’s post will serve as an expression of my delight that you are reading this!

And as my Thank You (even though it was dramatically better in person than I could capture with my phone) here is last night’s breath-taking sunset, just for you.

Please keep reading, and let me know you are there by commenting! Any kind you want!

Chosen Perspective; a hard won example!

Well, if you absolutely have to go to a hospital, I wish a similar experience for you.

This is NOT a rant about today’s healthcare, although I have had some extremely poor, tacky, even dangerous treatment in the last few years.

This is about the completely unexpected bonus of perusing the equivalent of a lovely art gallery, in a building with a stunning view! All right there at the hospital.

Here’s my story in pictures, most of which don’t even scratch the surface of the visual treat!!!

(The very top photo is Lucy taking care of me before the doctor’s visit.)

Started with a tiny ankle fracture but a whopper of a SPRAIN!

My view as they tortured me in PT! (I’m kidding! I hardly noticed what they were doing!)

Even the counter top of the check-out desk has this beautiful Fused Glass!

Oh, and the medical staff was truly exceptional!

It took a some effort to shift my perspective but all in all, not a bad urgent medical visit!!!  Not bad at all.

A big Thank You to University of Washington/Harborview!

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

I’ve written about him many times before….my greatest teacher…

This year, I find myself singing instead.

It reminds me to NOT give up…..

SongLyricSunday-1/13/19 Theme-Laughter

Well, because it is Sunday, I am going to tell you about a song that absolutely sold this non-religious, but multi-faith-ed gal on my local Unity Church.

I had not seen my favorite singers for quite a while (and had not attended “church” for quite a while either) but I could not resist attending last week when I heard they were going to be there. They did not perform the song I am going to share, but instead just happened to do my favorite song. Both of which I will share with you now.

Garnett Hundley and Beverly Daugherty are truly amazing singers, in a wide variety of styles. You may want to sample some more of their music for entertainment and inspiration.

The only way I know to include the songs I want to share today are to give you their whole page. When you click play below it will bring up a different song, (Beautiful) but also you can click on each of them by title to hear.

The first song is one that made me belly laugh when I heard it. I think it was a combination of absolute delight, mixed with deep respect for such a wonderful way to address some childhood edicts clearly similar to my own. It’s called Born Innocent.

The second song is the anthem I have always tried to live up to. I hope to be remembered in this way.  This one is called A Life Uncommon (originally by Jewell).

As always, I LOVE your comments!

A Song for Helen, who has given us SongLyricSunday for so long!!

Dear Helen,

I’ve posted this song before but I listen to and watch it almost every day. It reminds me, and lifts me, and helps me with my own frustratingly unexplained physical limitations!!

I wish you the best and want to encourage your return, if and when that works for you.

Love,

ChosenPerspectives

SongLyricSunday 12/8/18

It’s Saturday but I won’t be able to do a post tomorrow.

I knew exactly the song I wanted but when I wrote today’s date, I burst into tears.

38 years ago today we lost John Lennon. I was stopped on the I 90 bridge in rush hour traffic.

I was searching for music, but every station was playing “Imagine”. Oh God, I knew immediately what that meant.

Back then, I also burst into tears .

You know how, in traffic, you can catch people movement in the car next to you? I turned to see a young man, way younger than me, also sobbing. We locked eyes for a long, long time, just crying. We had both just heard, and we knew it.

What an incredibly powerful and intimate moment. I’ll never forget his eyes.

And this version is from one of my favorite movies…ever. I am an all-the-way-out-of-the-closet Mush Head!! But if you like a good “teacher” movie, this is a must.

Now I’m going to go hug my beautiful, beautiful boys….
