That’s a Flicker (type of woodpecker). Actually quite an irritating bird for us over in Spokane. 4 times, the Flickers have EATEN/PECKED their way right into the house, under the eaves. James had to put up ugly metal strips to keep them out.
It’s why he sits outside in the mornings with a BB gun!! I won’t let him kill them but he uses it to scare them off the building.
