Forlorn

I grew up in San Diego. My bones, my very cells are trained to live in a perfect climate, with very little temperature change, and where seasons are nearly undetectable.

I have lived in Washington state for more than 40 years now and as much as I adore the natural beauty of the Northwest in all its weather phases, I still grieve, deeply, as we move into Winter. I know there is beauty and purpose in the dark months, but I will never like the cold.

Is there anything more pitiful than the very last one of the year!!

These were all taken in the last week or so…depressing to see all the final blossoms on each plant…

But here are the ones that really get to me.

sigh………….the very last apples on 30 trees! I can feel the S.A.D. creeping in…

Oh wait. This morning I spotted THIS!!

Thought a blog might help me develop better writing habits so I could finally finish my book, 16 years in the writing, but so far it's mostly photos and FUN!

    1. I bet this is an example of the seasonal differences in our opposite parts of the country. Fall has come and long gone here. Winter is upon us and these blossoms are the end of Autumn so I guess I should be happy it is mild enough for a flower to last as long as it does here…but you definitely got my point. Thanks for the comment.

  1. What you call winter, we call a balmy spring!

When we were both younger and didn’t realize how much we would hate the cold as we grew older, my husband turned down a network affiliate job at a TV station in San Diego. I didn’t understand why he said no — except he’d been in Boston so long, he couldn’t imagine living elsewhere. These days, i try not to think about it. Oh how I wish we were there!!!

    1. Well, I do too except on 3 of our many winter trips South in the last few years, we had a Gale, some snow and an earthquake while in “paradise”…global warming??
I hear my Dad’s admonition again…Bloom where you are planted!
Thanks for your comment Marilyn. I do know how much harder it could be elsewhere! I love the Northwest!!
